TEXAS CITY - Sam Hubert Armstrong, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, November 28, 2011 at Gulf Coast Health Care Nursing Home in Texas City. Sam was born February 24, 1926 in Union City, Arkansas. He was the oldest of 5 sons born to Sam & Norris Armstrong. Sam served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the Hospital Ship, the USS Hope in the Pacific. In 1949 he moved to Texas City and went to work for American Oil Company where he retired in 1977. Sam also built fences and was owner of Armstrong Fence Company. He had a strong natural aptitude for Mathematics and was a Spelling Bee champion.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents Sam & Norris Armstrong, his wife, Inez Hayes Armstrong, brothers, Doughlas, Donald and Ralph Armstrong. He is survived by one brother and three sister-in-laws; five children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
