Beau L. Holland, 83 of Arkansas City died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at his residence.

Interment is at the Parker Cemetery.

Beau was born February 1, 1926 to Salos B. Holland and Jewel N. (Steele) Holland in Superior, AZ. He attended Pittsburg High School and joined the United States Navy in 1944. He entered basic training in Farragut, ID and served on the USS Newcomb until it was damaged. He then served on the USS Hope hospital ship.

On December 20, 1946 he married Alice L. Hamm in Pittsburg, KS where the couple made their home until 1952. The couple moved to Arkansas City where they have made their home since 1958. Beau worked for Kansas Gas and Electric and was a member of the Bible Christian Church. He was also a life member of the Spencer Ralston Post #1254 V.F.W., American Legion Shelton Beaty Post #18, Pittsburg Lodge #187 59 year member, 32nd Degree Mason, past patron of (O.E.S.)Order of the Eastern Star, Charter member and past president of the Jayhawkers Camper Club.

Beau is survived by his wife, Alice Holland of the home; sons, Michael Holland and wife, Judy of Arkansas City, David Holland and wife, Deborah of Emporia; grandchildren, Paul Holland and wife, Ann of Emporia, Jeff Holland and wife, Kendra of Emporia, Tanya Holland of Arkansas City, Tara Martinez and husband, Gil of Kansas City and Rebecca Petterson of Arkansas City; seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

A memorial has been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
