Raymond R. "Lefty" Phillips died December 16, 2008 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Born in Peoria, IL on July 16, 1921. A longtime resident of Joliet, IL. Living in Santa Rosa, CA for the last several years.
Survived by his wife, Nola (nee Eglin) Phillips; and daughters, Susan (Nick) Seehafer of Moline, IL and Judith (Larry) Kachel of Plainfield, IL; granddaughters, Dana Seehafer and her partner, Kerri Ruddy, Megan (Ryan) Early, Janiece and Jillian Kachel; step-granddaughters, Joelle (William) Hickey of Haymarket, VA and Jennifer (Kevin) Healy of North Easton, MA; and seven great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Pam (David) Arnold, Kim (Michael) Courier and Andrea Duncan and grandchildren; sister, Ruth Culyat of Joliet, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Alice (nee Cox) Phillips; brothers, Charles, Harry and Richard; sisters, Margaret Mems and Lorraine Slimack.
Graduate of St. Raymond's and Joliet Catholic High School (1940). World War II (Pacific campaign). Veteran Recipient of the Purple Heart. Retired from Caterpillar. He was an avid basketball, baseball and bowling player and fan.
Cremation in California. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, Joliet, IL.
