Eugene J. Shuchart, 85, formerly of New Freedom, entered into rest August 22, 2009 at Cape Coral Rehabilitation Center in Florida. He was the husband of Angelita M. (Rodriguez) Shuchart, to whom he was married for 53 years.

Born May 22, 1924, in New Freedom, he was the son of the late Albert and Victoria (Ryer) Shuchart.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, Fla., the Disabled American Veterans, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. After graduating from the former New Freedom High School, he served his country honorably during W.W. II in the U.S. Army, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Eugene graduated from Villanova University, Philadelphia with a Bachelors Degree in Economics. While attending Villanova, Eugene was recognized in Who's Who among Colleges and Universities. He earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania. Eugene earned his CPA and worked as an accountant for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. He was a professor at the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and later at Edison College in Ft. Myers, Fla. He retired in 1980 and moved to Cape Coral, Fla. from Silver Spring, Md. He was a former member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Freedom, and a charter member of New Freedom's V.F.W. Post 7012. Eugene was inducted into the New Freedom High School Hall of Fame in the late 1980's.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gene Shuchart and his wife, Jodi of Cortland, Ohio, Michael Shuchart of Reisterstown, Md., Larry Shuchart and his wife, Teresa of Dallastown and David Shuchart and his wife, Crystal of Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Stoy and her husband, Robert of Newtown Square; a brother, Wilfrid Shuchart of New Freedom; and eight grandchildren, Lana, Michael, Christine, Mickey, Brian, Jack and Charlie. Also survived by cousins that were like siblings, Rose Marie Shuchart and Henry Shuchart, both of New Freedom, and the late Paul Shuchart; and by his dog, Bo.
